Georgia-Pacific is seeking an Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV) – Systems Engineer to join our Technology Solutions Group based in Atlanta, GA.
As a team member, the Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV) - Systems Engineer works within GP’s businesses focusing on installing and starting up Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) systems across the enterprise. Over the next three years, multiple positions are available to support deployments/installs in Muskogee, OK; Green Bay, WI; and Savannah, GA. After these deployments\ installs are complete, resources will move into a remote SME and sustaining role for the AGV\LGV platform across GP.

Georgia Pacific has made significant investments in new automated systems and needs resources to support planned deployments and sustain the performance of those investments via the use of operational and sustaining practices coupled with the utilization of data analytics. This role will report to the Automation and Robotics’ CoE – Vice President.
What You Will Do
- Lead system installation of autonomous vehicles and peripheral equipment (chargers, I/O panels, operator interfaces, etc.)
- Installing, testing, and debugging the system
- Modifying equipment and software
- Troubleshooting, defining, and seeking resources to recognize and resolve electrical, mechanical, and software improvement opportunities with system components.
- Making software and hardware adjustments
- Monitors system performance metrics
- Performing AGV\LGV training
- Interfacing with internal and external customers
- Collaborating with other engineers on projects. Manage a team of robotic technicians that provide support to customer sites with their mechanical needs.
- Configuring the software of hardware devices installed in the AGV\LGV vehicle and performing static operational testing.
- Performing dynamic safety and operational tests
- Performing development, simulation, and layout analysis of simple systems
- Performing testing and troubleshooting for any issues affecting the AGV’s\LGV during installation
- System optimization during installation
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Associates Degree or higher OR experience working in a manufacturing environment
- Ability and willingness to learn new technologies with significant training opportunities in year #1
- Able to travel up to 75% in years 1-3 to support deployments, 50% after that
What Will Put You Ahead
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher, preferably in an engineering field
- Operational experience working with AGV’s\LGV’s
- Mechanical/electrical/programming experience working with AGV’s\LGV’s
- Software experience
- Knowledge of SAP/MP2
- Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams.
- Working knowledge and use of basic AutoCAD software commands
- Ability to read and understand programming languages (typically PLC, as per standard IEC 61131-11)
- Familiarity with basic Wi-Fi network principles (understanding and configuration of access point/access client)
- Customer-focused mindset
- High sense of urgency with the ability to work independently
- Experience working with remote technical teams
- AGV setup and programming experience
