INVISTA has an immediate opening for an Environmental Manager at our Houston Propylene facility. The Environmental Manager creates long term value by ensuring risks are identified and mitigated while sustaining performance improvement and striving for environmental excellence. This is accomplished by providing environmental leadership and strategic direction to the facility leadership and team through the application of Principle Based Management and adherence to our Guiding Principles.
Our Team
As part of the site Leadership Team, the Environmental Manager will be responsible for the development, implementation, and management of the facility’s environmental compliance programs and systems. This position will lead the facility’s environmental program and assist in ensuring facility compliance with pertinent governmental regulations, including state and federal air regulations for air emissions, storm water, wastewater, and hazardous waste. The role will also help ensure that the site conforms to relative company policies and procedures.
The Environmental Manager must be able to embrace and lead change, possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to use influence to get work done, enjoy working in a manufacturing environment and interacting with operators and maintenance personnel, and efficiently balance multiple priorities. The position requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of audiences. The successful candidate must also lead by example, be self-motivated, possess strong analytical skills, exhibit sound decision-making, and have proficient organizational skills.
This position reports directly to the Plant Manager of the Houston Propylene facility.
What You Will Do
- Manage a team of Environmental Engineers to ensure compliance of federal (EPA) and state/local (TCEQ) environmental program requirements, including but not limited to air, wastewater, storm water, solid and hazardous waste, and SPCC
- Lead in development and implementation of the critical risk plan and environmental strategies into the plant’s overall Operational Excellence (OpEx) Plan
- Be knowledgeable in environmental regulations (federal, state and local) applicable to the facility and assess compliance, procedural and financial impacts to the facility as a result of applicable regulations
- Analyze incident and compliance trend data and work with operating departments to reduce risk and identify cost effective solutions for technical and regulatory environmental issues
- Facilitate and represent the facility during agency inspections and lead environmental incident investigations, mitigation, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
- Manage compliance calendar, coordinate activities and prepare/submit reports to agencies on schedule
- Manage hazardous materials program and mitigate exposure to safety and environmental hazards and risks in the workplace
- Effectively interact with internal/external environmental technical resources and INVISTA legal resources to seek the best knowledge
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Environmental Management, Environmental Science
- 5+ years of environmental compliance experience, preferred in at least 2 of 3 environmental areas: air, water, waste
What Will Put You Ahead
- Environmental experience in an industrial/manufacturing facility
- Experience managing and implementing Title V Operating permits
- Experience in understanding or ability to quickly understand emissions calculations
- Experience conducting facility audits, assessments, or inspections to identify improvement areas
- Experience in project management
- Experience implementing key management systems/controls such as Permits, Plans, License & Registration, and Compliance Calendars
- Experience in environmental permitting activities
- Demonstrated leadership and supervision experience
