Production Leader – Master Technician
Georgia-Pacific is seeking qualified professionals to consider for a Production Leader (Master Technician) to support our Retail Department manufacturing area at our Palatka, FL facility. Located just south of Jacksonville and west of St. Augustine, FL, the Palatka mill employs about 950 people has four tissue paper machines, several converting lines and produce consumer tissue products such as bath tissue and paper towels.
This position will work in a high energy, dynamic organization established on the principles of an ownership-based work system that is focused on the execution of reliability strategies.
Starting pay for this role is $26.79 per hour including benefits and 401K.
What Will You Need?
Required Qualifications:
· Experience inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the root cause of errors or other problems or defects
· Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing systems, equipment and components.
· Background working with mechanical and electrical systems (i.e., wiring…)
· Experience with using written learning and teaching instructional methods and procedures (i.e., giving instruction using SOP’s or JHA’s when training new employees or learning new procedures)
· Basic proficiency with computer including Microsoft Office, including drafting, editing, storing, and maintaining information and documents.

- Experience with rewinding technology, web handling or packaging
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Lead, coach and mentor:
- Lead the workforce in ways that are consistent with the PBM Guiding Principles
- Serve as resource for platform technology and reliability resource for primary tech center or area of responsibility and provide leadership, coaching and guidance to the team.
- Proactively identify hazards and validate that controls exist to mitigate risk and ensure a safe work environment is maintained
- Understand individual capabilities of all team members and lead the efforts to identify and close gaps.
- Understand individual team members comparative advantages and deploy resources as needed to ensure maximum effectiveness of the complex.
- Understand overall reliability Vision and ensure that all team members understand their part and are executing the strategies as required
- Understand overall Quality, Product Stewardship and Product Safety Visions and ensure that all team members understand their part and are executing the strategies as required
Interface with Maintenance and Support:
- Complete maintenance repairs based on personal capability, along with technicians, to increase on shift reliability.
- Troubleshoot upset conditions, repair as needed. Seek help from coworkers (Manufacturing Engineers, supervision, electricians, etc.) when necessary
- Work with maintenance team to schedule planned downtime work on equipment. Be creative in planning downstream or upstream equipment when time and or resources permits.
- Approve and export work requests in the system and provide work orders to maintenance as needed. When maintenance is needed, lead the effort to have that knowledge transferred between the maintenance employee and the Master Tech/Technician level where applicable.
- Effective Communications:
- Effectively communicate valuable information to the team using a variety of tools (verbal, written, electronic, etc.)
- Lead shift exchange and daily direction setting meetings and ensure all technicians understand and report on their areas of operation. Coordinate assignments as needed.
- Lead on shift problem solving and RCA’s and clearly communicate and assign corrective actions
- Work with Manufacturing Engineers, Precision Technician, Skill Builder, other Technicians and various members of the product system as needed
- Attend training as needed to meet the needs of the facility and/ or participate in off-site training as required.
Support Reliability and Asset Strategy efforts:
- Flow to the highest value work which may include across tech centers
- Teach and mentor technicians on routine basic care activities including inspections, cleaning, lubrication, alignment, small bearings, belts, torque bolts, etc. to support asset strategies.
- Work with technicians to change over production equipment to meet planning needs
- Operate and maintain equipment reliably in the operating envelope.
- Evaluate and improve operator basic care (OBC) and lube routes
- Support and sustain the PPR efforts with all technicians
- Apply knowledge and work with technicians to develop and improve asset strategies and follow through to completion
Drive Key Performance Indicator Process:
- Know and understand all identified Key Performance Indicators and proactively execute action plans to close the gaps.
- Operate equipment within operating targets and limits along with providing feedback on improvements
- Track equipment and production losses and own the plan to capture highest value opportunities
- Effectively prioritize, schedule and execute tasks within work area
