Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Safety Supervisor at the Nahola Mill in Pennington, AL. As a Safety Supervisor, you will provide leadership, strategic direction, and counsel to the facility. Safety Supervisor ensure facility Health and Safety activities, systems, and plans effectively to drive performance and meet or exceed business and company objectives and requirements.
The ideal candidate will embrace change, possess strong interpersonal skills, and the capacity to balance multiple priorities. This position requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of audiences. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, have sound decision making skills, strong organization skills, and the ability to lead a team to maintain and improve facility safety performance.
Our Team
Georgia-Pacific’s Naheola Mill located in Pennington, Alabama, is a manufacturing site for the company’s well-known consumer products business. More than 900 employees produce a wide range of products for the consumer business, including Angel Soft® bath tissue, Sparkle® paper towels, as well as bleached paperboard used in Dixie® paper cups and plates.
The mill is the largest employer in the community and is engaged in supporting community outreach, workforce development and education. The area is a sportsman’s paradise with world-class hunting for deer, turkey and other small game and is bounded on the east by the Tombigbee River which provides such recreation as freshwater fishing, boating and water skiing. Residents of this area enjoy the mild climate, a low cost of living, and is an easy drive to the many resort communities and soft white-sand beaches of the Gulf Coast.
What You Will Do
- Providing support to the Safety Manager and leadership team to achieve the vision through management commitment and employee ownership and engagement
- Participating in the development and implementation of risk assessment methods/systems for anticipating, identifying, and evaluating hazards
- Developing systems/methods for identifying hazards and evaluating risk in existing and future equipment, processes, operations (i.e. risk assessments, near misses, etc.)
- Prescribing control solutions to eliminate hazards and causes of loss events and to reduce the chance of loss when hazards cannot be eliminated
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
What Will Put You Ahead
- Ten (10+) plus years of safety experience in an industrial or manufacturing process environment
- Experience leading process safety programs
- Experience onboarding and developing employees, helping to foster a safety-driven culture
- Experience in leading a site to improved safety and performance
- Experience working in building products
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
