Your Role
We are currently recruiting for a Power & Utilities Manager at Georgia-Pacific’s Savannah River Mill in Rincon, GA. The Power & Utilities Manager is responsible for establishing the safety, quality, cost, and operating output of Power & Utilities Operating Plan. A Power & Utilities Manager is responsible for achieving production goals, managing performance of direct reports, making sound operational decisions, and troubleshooting customer issues. This role is responsible for day-to-day management of the department’s supervisory staff, including 6 direct reports and a total team of 40 employees. This role will report to the Wet End Operations Manager.

What you Will Do
- Mentoring all utilities’ team members on the daily operation and best practices.
- Motivate and develop a team of salaried and hourly employees to continuously improve department performance and business management.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with other departments, leaders up and down the organization, and a union hourly workforce.
- Support the development of Asset Strategies for utilities equipment including Condition Based Monitoring, Preventative Maintenance, Predictive Maintenance, Operating Envelope, Operator Basic Care/Zone Ownership and Spare Parts optimization working with the technicians and area engineers working with ME’s and PE’s.
- Evaluate, approve, and prioritize equipment repairs and scheduled shutdowns utilizing the Asset Maintenance Work Process with the pulp mill outage coordinator, engineers, and maintenance with the Area PSL.
- Coach and develop technicians to reliably operate equipment and processes working with area leaders from salary level to hourly level.
- Work closely with engineers, technicians, and customers to troubleshoot process, quality and equipment issues and evaluate and implement improvement ideas with PC’s/ME’s.
- Lead improvements in Utilities process equipment and associated chemical systems.
- Develop, initiate, and execute capital projects with area leaders.
- Support problem recognition and solving efforts as issues arise in the pulp mill and mentor permanent resolution and proper systems in place.
- Developing daily cost tracking in U&E around gas, electric, coal, petcoke, lime, chemical usage, and other fuel recipes. Adjusting electric and power generation depending on daily pricing in summer months and the same around natural gas in the winter months and solid fuels.
- Provide leadership to meet/exceed key performance indicators in safety, environmental compliance, reliability, production, and cost.
- Controls optimization with ME’s, PCE’s, and Technicians for all assets.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Experience in a utilities area with solid fuel boilers, package boilers, turbines, water and effluent treatment, and landfills.
- Experience leading a team of direct reports
- Experience in developing and executing capital projects.
- Continuous improvement and transformation experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to lead and mentor the team members.
What Will Put You Ahead
- Bachelor’s degree
- 15 + years’ experience in Power, Water, and Utilities areas
- 10 + years’ area leadership experience
- Pi or equivalent experience with historian software
