Guardian Industries has an immediate need for a Quality Engineer. This role will be based out of our plant in Carleton, MI (greater Detroit, MI area). Come check out what we have to offer!
What You Will Do
- Develop a thorough understanding of glass manufacturing (float) and fabrication (coating, tempering) fundamentals including potential failure modes
- Coordinate with the Quality Manager and department managers to investigate and resolve plant and customer quality concerns through structured problem-solving including containment, remediation, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
- Leverage quality system tools and data analysis to identify opportunities to reduce process variation within manufacturing and logistics, and work with department managers and engineers to fully deploy those improvements
- Support the Quality Manager in meeting quality KPI goals according to the facility’s business plan in coordination with Regional OPEX and to Global Quality initiatives.
- Provide quality performance reports to plant and regional management
- Facilitate the Layered Process Audit program through continuous improvement of content while providing direct support to users
- Coordinate Gauge Management including Calibration and Measurement System Analysis
- Develop and share best/proven practices amongst peers in the Region.
- Aid in supporting the plant’s document control system
- Maintain and support the Quality Management System to comply with ISO-9001 including document control and Internal Audits
- Drive a strong customer focus with emphasis on quick and accurate responses to customer issues
- Support effective product development, launch and on-going change management activities with emphasis on risk mitigation
- Advance the Principle Based Management culture through the Challenge Process, Principled Entrepreneurship™, and Knowledge sharing
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or another STEM discipline, OR in lieu of a degree, possess three (3) or more years’ experience in a manufacturing quality field
- Willing and able to travel 10% - 15% of the time
- Experience working with standard quality tools (8D, DMAIC, FMEA, MSA, multiple RCA techniques)
- Experience measuring and improving processes to meet organization goals
- Experience in team leadership, influence leadership, advancing projects or project management
- Experience in coordinating cross functionally with multiple teams or departments
- Microsoft Office experience to include Outlook, creation of presentations, data analysis, charts, graphs, and formulas
What Will Put You Ahead
- Certified Quality Engineer
- Knowledge and experience in statistical analysis
- Experience in Six Sigma or Lean
- Database and Power BI experience
- Experience working as a Process Engineer
