Georgia-Pacific is seeking qualified individuals to consider for an Emergency Response/Safety Specialist opportunity at our Brewton, AL containerboard mill. This position focuses on managing and developing the emergency response program, the fire protection systems across the mill and supporting the Operations Excellence Teams through the effective integration of health and safety management systems. This role will report to the site’s Safety Manager.

What You Will Do
- Champion all emergency response team training for multidisciplinary team (HAZMAT, Interior Structural Fire, Emergency Medical, Confined Space-High Angle Rescue, and Incident Command)
- Support the Mill in achieving its Vision of Zero Significant Events
- Manage the continuous improvement, implementation, and sustainability of emergency response programs
- Coordinate the inspection, testing, and maintenance of emergency response equipment as well as fire protections systems and equipment
- Provide leadership and direction to achieve the safety and health vision through leveraging Safety and Health management systems
- Support the process safety, chemical process safety programs, and relevant safety initiatives
- Assist project teams in planning safety and emergency response into upcoming projects and activities
- Maintain and ensure compliance with GP Compliance Standards, OSHA, NFPA, and other safety regulations with both GP employees, contractors, and sub-contractors
- Participate in Incident Investigations, applying Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) concepts, and ultimately focusing on higher order controls
- Prepare and deliver safety training as needed
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree, OR Four (4) or more years of experience in an Emergency Response or Safety role
What Will Put You Ahead
- Knowledge of NFPA requirements for Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of fire protection systems and equipment
- Experience managing multi-discipline emergency response teams (HAZMAT, Interior Structural Fire Brigade, Emergency Medical, Confined Space-High Angle Rescue, and Incident Command)
- Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic Certification
- Experience and knowledge of PSM-covered processes
- Experience in heavy manufacturing and/or chemical processes in a pulp and paper and/or oil and gas facility
- Experience developing regulatory compliance programs and training
- Certified Trainer for ERT Program
- Experience in OSHA Compliance programs
