INVISTA(Canada) site located in Kingston, Ontario has an immediate opening for a Control Systems Engineer. The Kingston site is one of the world’s largest producers of nylon 6,6 airbag fiber, produces several specialty nylon polymer products and has a large footprint of utilities equipment to supply the facility with necessary services to operate.
Our Team
The Control Systems Engineer is an integral part of the process control team. This team is a group of highly skilled professionals who are responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining control systems for industrial processes. They work collaboratively to analyze process requirements, develop control strategies, program, and configure control systems, and ensure the optimal performance and safety of the processes. The team is comprised of 6-7 individuals and part of a larger process engineering and quality team of 30 employees.
What You Will Do
- DCS/PLC implementation, programming, and troubleshooting.
- Manage Process Control Network (PCN) equipment including, ESXI host, Windows servers, and desktop PCs. (With some IT Support)
- Program and test DCS logic, design high performance HMI graphics, support startup and commissioning activities.
- Review project documentation such as P&IDs and process descriptions to define control systems hardware and software requirements.
- Bring best practice knowledge on the implementation of procedural automation, alarm management and controller performance monitoring.
- In collaboration with Operations, PCN/IT, and maintenance/reliability teams, design/support and implement highly efficient solutions related to industrial controls and analytics.
- Training of plant personnel on DCS, HMI, and related infrastructure.
- Reverse-engineer logic from legacy control systems for DCS migration.
- Design input and cost estimation for capital equipment and automation projects.
- Provide oversight and direction to vendors and third-party integrators/providers for control systems implementation and upgrades.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- 3+ year of experience and a primary degree in Engineering or College Technologist Diploma while working within a fast-paced manufacturing/process environment, preferably those involving industrial control environments.
- Expertise / experience with various vendor DCS/PLC and HMI systems (ABB, Rockwell, Siemens, etc.)
- Expertise / experience with, virtual clients, Microsoft server and workstation operating systems
- Providing after-hours support as required.
What Will Put You Ahead
- 5+ years of manufacturing experience implementing control systems solutions.
- Hands-on experience with ABB control systems (Bailey INFI90 Harmony/Symphony, ABB 800xA,) Hands-on expertise with Rockwell/Schneider PLC’s, Drives, and visualization (HMI) platforms.
- Experience with virtualization based on VMware platforms.
- Experience with safety instrumented systems such as Boiler Management Systems or safety instrumented systems.
- Experience with industrial wireless technologies.
- Experience with automated material handling systems technologies.
- Knowledge and experience interfacing with production data historian systems such as OSI Pi
- Ability to work with a minimum of instructions and complete tasks independently; take ownership for technical decisions.
