Georgia-Pacific Green Bay Operations is seeking qualified individual to consider for a Safety Specialist role. This salaried position will report to the Manager of Safety & Health Services at the Green Bay Broadway Mill and support all Green Bay operations. Specifically, this position assists in OSHA/GP compliance, industrial hygiene, contractor safety activities, risk assessments, loss prevention, machine safeguarding, safety training and other safety compliance standards as assigned. Our Team
The Green Bay Broadway Mill manufactures and distributes leading commercial and retail brands of paper products (bath tissue, napkins, and towels). The mill has approximately 900 employees and 600 business support employees who provide engineering, transportation, data processing, and customer services. Every day, GP employees and products help maintain a strong, stable economy in Northeastern Wisconsin.
What You Will Do
- Lead, coach and develop employees utilizing the Principle Based Management™ philosophy and framework
- Identify hazards and evaluating risk in existing or future equipment, processes, and operations
- Ensure facilities have prioritized, actionable strategies and effective metrics to monitor safety and health progress and performance
- Enhance the capability in the development and implementation of fundamental safety programs. Fundamental programs include, but are not limited to Industrial Hygiene, Confined Space, Lock Tag Verify, Machine Guarding, Contractor Safety Management Program, Fall Protection, Incident Investigation, Mobile Equipment, Cranes and Rigging, Personal Protective Equipment, and Work Permits
- Work with all aspects of Safety & Health programs, including training, continuous improvement, compliance standard ownership and subject matter expertise
- Provide a visible safety presence in the field with operations, maintenance, and contractor work groups
- Perform Hazard Identification Risk Assessments (HIRA) and other risk assessments
- Support safety audits, inspection and interactions with government agencies
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Safety, Contractor Safety, Industrial Hygiene or Engineering OR Three (3) or more years working experience in a safety & health, engineering or leadership role
- Safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial facility
- Must have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship
What Will Put You Ahead
- Professional Safety Certifications (ie.: GSP, ASP, CSP and others)
- Knowledge of OSHA 1910, OSHA 1926, NFPA Codes, ANSI
- Safety Certificates or Safety classes
- Experience and knowledge in recognizing and mitigating hazards
- Experience establishing sustainable systems for compliance and continuous improvement
