Manufacturing Engineer
Georgia-Pacific’s Dixie® products manufacturing facility located in Darlington, SC has an opening for an Manufacturing Engineer! The Manufacturing Engineer role is primarily accountable for the performance and capability of manufacturing assets. The ideal candidate for this role will possess a business-owner mindset, be a problem solver, and have a passion for working with and through others to optimize manufacturing assets and production processes. This position is part of the facility’s Operations Team and will report to the Operations Leader; it will work closely with our technical engineering team, our maintenance execution team, and various corporate groups.

The Darlington Dixie® plant has been in operation for nearly 85 years and is one of the
largest employers in Darlington County. Owned by Georgia-Pacific, the site boasts more than 400 employees and produces plates, bowls, and other tableware products. What You Will Do
- Develop and implement comprehensive asset strategies for all assigned assets
- Work with operators and others to ensure all environmental, safety and business practices are in play and efforts are focused on identifying critical risks within the operation and mitigating the impact of human errors
- Regularly help communicate and connect employees to our vision, priorities, and business objectives.
- Coach and develop operators to operate equipment and processes safely and efficiently with a focus on stabilizing, and then optimizing, production.
- Work closely with operators and customers to troubleshoot process, quality and equipment issues and evaluate and implement improvement ideas.
- Lead the Root Cause Analysis process and execute effective corrective actions.
- Evaluate, approve, and prioritize equipment repairs and scheduled shutdowns; initiating capital projects as needed.
- Perform GEMBA walks in the areas to improve employee engagement and maintenance performance.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- A minimum of 3 years in a manufacturing or industrial operations environment. (Transferrable experience in the military may be substituted, for up to 2 years of this requirement, in lieu of direct manufacturing experience)
- Two (2) or more years of experience troubleshooting, commissioning, and / or improving manufacturing equipment and processes.
- Experience with manufacturing equipment set-up, operation, or repair.
What Will Put You Ahead
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in an Engineering or other relevant technical discipline.
- Experience working in a converting mill
- Experience working with automated packaging equipment, conveyor & vision systems, and/or robotics.
- Experience initiating and/or executing capital projects.
- Experience with PI or other data historian programs.
