Your Job/Position Summary
The responsibility of the Power Plant Utility Operator is to work with the Utilities Operating team in achieving goals/improvement of key factor results such as safety, environmental compliance and controls, asset strategy improvement, housekeeping, and reliability.
This operator will be expected to use mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills to support reliable operations for the Savannah River Mill. They will work to further develop personal skills, knowledge, and capabilities for the role. In addition, this operator will be faced with having to make quick decisions that could stabilize the plant during upset conditions. Some of the work will require the operator to work outside in varying weather conditions. A Utility Operator will work a rotating 12-hour shift that includes days, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime hours.
The pay starts at $23 per hour with competitive benefits and no top out range on pay.
Our Team
Our Savannah River Mill in Rincon, GA began operations in October 1986 and is considered a world-class operation in the industry. Five of the world’s 12 largest tissue paper machines reside at the facility. Our operation is designed to produce products primarily from recycled fiber. We have over 50 converting lines that make the tissue, towel and napkin products in our retail and away from home markets. What You Will Do
- Providing operational monitoring and troubleshooting of solid fuel fired high pressure boilers.
- Operation and monitoring of gas and steam turbine generators.
- Operation and monitoring of compressed air, cooling towers, and heat exchangers systems.
- Maintaining compliance of SRM environmental standards.
- Sampling and quality testing of steam and water systems.
- Performing lubrication, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance of powerhouse equipment.
- Ability to interface with computers to monitor and log operational equipment data.
- Self-directed with good communication skills
- Working in an environment / contact with coal, grease, chemicals, and other substances, and in a loud/noisy, hot, humid, dusty, greasy and dirty environment.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Able to work rotating shift schedule which includes weekends and holidays
- Must be willing to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, to include wearing safety equipment, i.e.: safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed boots and other PPE as required
- Adept at reading gauges (pressure, temperature)
- Able to clearly communicate troubleshooting issues, report concerns, read and follow instructions, record and enter data
- Experience organizing, scheduling, and executing tasks effectively as well as learn and apply new skills
- Willing to perform repetitive and physically demanding routine tasks such as lifting (up to 40 lbs.), pushing/pulling, gripping, reaching, sitting, walking, standing, bending, climbing ladders/stairs
- Willing to work in high and/or confined spaces
What Will Put You Ahead
- Experience with operating heavy equipment, rotating machinery, chemical handling and lubrication
- Experienced in using basic hand and power tools such as wrench, hammer, and drills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Experience with PTM, Kronos, and Indus Passport programs.
- Knowledge of power plant safety policies, procedures and operations specifically in areas of water treatment, steam and power distribution systems.
Schedule: The Mill operates 24/7 and 365 days per year. Therefore, our mill operates using a 12-hour rotating schedule that includes holidays, weekends, and overtime. Our rotating schedule allows for a regular 14 days off every 4-week period. See example below.
DS = Day Shift: 6:50 A.M. - 7:10 P.M.
NS = Night Shift: 6:50 P.M. - 7:10 A.M.
