What You Will Do
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and programs that align with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Lead safety committees and collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, assess, and mitigate workplace hazards.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and assessments to identify potential opportunities and implement improvements.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs to educate employees on safe work practices, emergency procedures, and compliance with safety regulations.
- Conduct learning teams after an event (incidents, accidents, and near misses, etc.) to learn from and prevent future occurrences.
- Maintain accurate safety records, incident reports, and documentation to ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
- Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics to identify trends and develop strategies for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with management to establish safety goals, track progress, and implement strategies to achieve targets.
- Stay up-to-date with relevant safety regulations, codes, and standards, ensuring the organization's practices remain compliant.
- Develop emergency response plans and protocols, coordinating drills and exercises to ensure preparedness.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to safety coordinators, specialists, and other team members.
- Foster a strong safety culture by promoting safety awareness, encouraging reporting, and recognizing safe behaviors.
- Manage relationships with regulatory agencies, participating in inspections and audits as necessary.
- Collaborate with environmental, health, and quality teams to ensure a holistic approach to workplace safety.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Experience in safety management, preferably in a similar industry or environment.
- Knowledge of occupational safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Experience communicating both verbally and written with multiple levels of an organization
- Experience using Analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess risks and develop effective solutions.
- Leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide teams toward safety goals.
What Will Put You Ahead
- Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, industrial engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent, Emergency Response/Management, NFPA or ProBoard Certification as a Fire Fighter or relevant emergency response experience.
- Proficiency in using safety management software, databases, and reporting tools.
