INVISTA (Canada) located in Kingston, Ontario has an opening for an Environmental Engineer. As one of the largest facilities in the world for nylon 6,6 polymers and airbag fibre production we have a broad range of engineering applications in both chemical and mechanical processes. This position is responsible for the site’s environmental programs and requires the application of technical expertise, good judgement and innovation while ensuring that the site complies with all applicable regulatory standards.
Our Team
Our Environmental Engineer plays a vital role within the Kingston Site Environment, Health, Safety Team at INVISTA’s Kingston Site manufacturing facility and reports to the Environmental Manager.
What You Will Do
• Lead the environmental program for Kingston Site, including air, water, and waste facets.
• Responsible for maintaining the environmental compliance tasks, environmental compliance reports and submissions as needed, including ensuring the integrity of the data that may be collected and used for these submissions.
• Conduct environmental, compliance and risk audits to ensure full compliance with regulations, procedures, and good practices.
• Represent the site on environmental subjects by liaising with internal and external stakeholders, including other sites, the public, government agencies, contractors, and consultants.
• Provide advice and guidance to internal stakeholders such as technical, manufacturing and research staff, and to management on environmental matters.
• Act as a leader to prepare for and respond to, investigate, and resolve problems relating to environmental subjects, such as spills.
• Lead root cause analyses and develops recommendations to implement effective solutions to prevent reoccurrences.
• Lead control of chemicals at the facility as it relates to environmental and product stewardship.
• Promote continuous improvement efforts in the environmental arena, integrating tactical and strategic environmental action planning and execution to maximize long term value.
• Provide expert interpretation and be proactive in following changes to acts, regulations, policies, guidelines, and other requirements relating to environmental subjects.
• Lead, coordinate, and review environmental related approvals such as Environmental Compliance Approvals.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
• Chemical, process or environmental engineering degree
• 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
What Will Put You Ahead
• 5+ years of experience in environmental engineering
• P. Eng. preferred or in the process of pursuing designation
• Knowledge of air, water and waste regulatory framework
• Ability to travel within Ontario
• Familiarity with project management principles and practices
• Proficiency in the use of PC-based computer systems and software applications, along with a desire to learn and do more in this arena.
