Georgia-Pacific is seeking an Technical Assistant for the Pulpmill area to join our Cedar Springs, GA containerboard mill. This position will optimize operations across all shifts and crews (DO), manage through use of the labor agreement, ensure EHS compliance, oversee process safety management, support the department training efforts, and support/maintain the development of the lock/tag/verify system.
The Pulpmill department’s primary responsibility is to safely, compliantly and cost effectively operate the digesters and washers. The unit operations consist of kraft batch digesters, a continuous NSSC digester, vacuum washers, as well as a turpentine recovery system.

The Cedar Springs facility is one of the largest containerboard facilities in the country with three paper machines that make different weights of brown paper & containerboard paper. The Cedar Springs Mill, located in the southwest corner of Georgia is approximately 28 miles from Dothan, Alabama. Dothan is the 6th largest city in the state of Alabama with a population of about 70,000. From Dothan, you are only 90 miles from the beautiful Gulf Coast. You can easily drive to 3 capital cities in 3 1/2 hours or less. You are just 1.5 hours from Tallahassee, FL and Montgomery, AL. What You Will Do
- Develop troubleshooting guides, short interval controls, operator basic care routes, and operating envelopes to support and improve our Discipline Operations (DO) efforts
- Support department efforts to develop and maintain the lock/tag/verify system
- Maintain our Process Safety Management (PSM) system through operator training and procedure reviews
- Verify and Audit standards within the crews for safety, environmental, quality, productivity, training, and cost control
- Provide safety leadership and knowledge
- Follow Leader Standard of Work

- Be flexible and manage multiple tasks
- Effectively administer pay and other associated transactions for direct reports

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- High School Diploma or GED
- Three (3) or more years of experience working with the kraft liquor cycle in the pulp and paper industry
- Experience using Microsoft Office programs such as Word (to write business correspondence), Excel (for use of spreadsheets, reporting, simple formulas) and Outlook (for internal and external correspondence)
What Will Put You Ahead
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering
- Direct supervisory experience in Pulping, Chemical Recovery or Power departments
- Experience teaching, coaching and mentoring others
- Experience supervising in a union environment
