Georgia-Pacific Gypsum, LLC has an immediate need for an experienced Environmental Technician to join our team at the Sweetwater, TX manufacturing facility. This is a highly skilled, hourly position requiring a thorough understanding of Safe Work Practices, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities. All candidates should be team-oriented, self-motivated, organized, and actively participate to promote a safe working environment. Additionally, the selected candidate must possess an entrepreneurial spirit for long-term continuous improvements, both personally and for the company.
What You Will Do
- Perform routine inspections for cleanup of debris to maintain all areas of responsibility, including maintaining culverts and water way ditches free of debris and trash.
- Utilize and operate various equipment: street sweeper, water truck, forklift, skid steer, & ATV or other equipment to fulfill responsibilities.
- Obtain Method 9 certification and perform visual emissions tests.
- Demonstrate and ensure safe work practices around pedestrians, mobile equipment, semi-trucks, and other vehicles.
- Observe and inspect work area and equipment for any potential safety related issues and manage in accordance with Georgia-Pacific safety standards and expectations.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of totes through organization and workflow control.
- Communicate and work collaboratively with strong oral and written communication skills to various audiences as this role will require communication to all levels of the organization in a team environment.
- Engage in stewardship projects at the site.
- Perform basic math functions routinely as a key responsibility of the role.
Physical Attributes of the Role
- Willing and able to work 8 to 12-hour shifts.
- Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold, noisy, industrial environment.
- Willing and able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Willing and able to wear the necessary Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) (i.e. hard hats, safety glasses, face shield, chemical suit, respirator, ear plugs, hearing protection, steel-toe boots or safety shoes and other PPE required by specific jobs)
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Experience with any of the following mobile equipment: street sweeper, water truck, forklift, skid steer, and/or ATV
- Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, farming, or military environment
What Will Put You Ahead
- Experience or technical degree/training in environmental duties and or management
- Experience in industrial cleanup duties, such as debris and/or trash removal
