Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Health and Safety Manager to join the Halsey OR paper manufacturing facility.
Our Team
This position will lead a Safety and Health capability group which includes Process Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, Worker's Compensation/Medical Management, Emergency Response, and Security. Working directly with the leadership team in identifying risk reduction efforts utilizing the site's Path to Zero safety improvement plan, which includes critical hazard risk reduction and application of Human and Organizational Performance (HOP), they will support the development and implementation of both essential safety and health initiatives, as well as support site S&H capability development.
Essential safety and health programs include but are not limited to: Human and Organizational Performance, Lock-Tag-Verify, Line Breaking/Equipment Opening, Fall Prevention, Mobile Equipment Interactions, Incident Investigation, Emergency Response, Electrical Safe Work Practices, Confined Space Entry, and Critical Work (Save My Life) permitting.
What You Will Do
You will serve as a coach, mentor, and counselor to mill VP, facility leadership, capability groups and S&H team to develop and execute short and long-term safety and health objectives, targets, strategies, and measures that prioritize and mitigate risks. Providing leadership, influencing and strategic direction to leadership team and direct reports to achieve the vision of ZERO significant incidents.
• Development and execution of strategic safety and health improvement plans
• Lead efforts to improve site capabilities in critical hazard program management, including hazardous energy control; fall prevention; mobile equipment pedestrian interactions; cranes and rigging; work permitting; fire; emergency preparedness; etc
• Facilitate incident investigations, ensuring Human and Organization Performance (HOP) concepts are utilized so the learning is maximized and ensuring recommendations are effective from both a prevention and recovery perspective to build the capacity to fail safely
• Coach and mentor site personnel to facilitate ownership of S&H and Compliance at all levels of the organization
• Provide leadership to site S&H team, including compliance system owners (CSOs) to ensure maximum value creation
• Ensure site compliance with OR-OSHA regulatory requirements
• Develop strategies for emerging facility and corporate needs and initiatives, especially those related to risk reduction with asset strategies and process safety ventures
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
• Previous experience in a safety-related leadership role in an industrial/manufacturing facility
• Previous experience and working knowledge of OSHA regulations, compliance, and training
• Previous experience establishing and applying sustainable EHS systems for compliance and continuous improvement, aimed at achieving demonstrated results
• Must have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship
What Will Put You Ahead
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field
• Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or equivalent certification
• Knowledge of Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) concepts and methods
• Previous experience with managing Process Safety and/or Environmental programs, including working knowledge of OR-EPA related laws
